Digitizing physical security in the data center

Comprehensive and resilient security solutions have always been a key issue in the operation of data centers. For the optimal implementation of strategic solutions in this area, the experts at DeRZ are now cooperating with Kentix GmbH to close the gap between physical and digital security.

For the first time, the cooperation between DeRZ and Kentix gives data center operators the opportunity to implement a modern access management system based on digital technologies and have it certified by TÜV Saarland. Thanks to the combined expertise of DeRZ and Kentix, certification in the area of access control and intrusion detection systems in conjunction with smart monitoring can be carried out in accordance with DIN EN 50600 - quickly and easily. This is a real innovation on the market, which considerably simplifies many otherwise lengthy processes. As there are currently no data center planners or installers in the industry who can offer such a solution as an overall concept ready for certification, DeRZ provides comprehensive expertise in the implementation of secure and efficient IT infrastructures. Combined with Kentix's services in the field of digital technologies for intrusion detection and access in the data center, this results in a strong overall concept.

"The focus around the operation of secure IT is not exclusively on cybersecurity. Physical protection also plays a major role here, so that an all-round coherent security concept can be achieved," says Stephan Sequens, Managing Director of Siegen-based DeRZ. Implementing these physical solutions in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) makes the entire security apparatus more scalable, more responsive and offers almost unlimited possibilities. The use of such a digital security infrastructure also proves to be strategically smart. In addition to the level of security, ongoing processes also become more efficient and the degree of flexibility is raised to a new level. "Today, it is crucial to integrate as many processes as possible digitally and, above all, to network them in order to make optimum use of existing technologies," explains Stephan Sequens, adding that the integration of modern access control systems, surveillance cameras, biometric identification systems, fire alarm technology and comprehensive security management is important in order to detect inconsistencies in real time and be able to react accordingly. Security and protection zones can be implemented more easily thanks to this management, as requirements are updated more quickly, thus ensuring future-oriented operation of the data center. "All security systems can be managed in a central platform, ensuring simple but defined access to the relevant information via an app. The integration of IoT technologies not only meets today's requirements in terms of security, but also offers more automation and user-friendliness, which in turn significantly reduces the workload for staff," says Stephan Sequens.
